#1 Shirley Villavicencio Pizango - self-portrait
Today we reveal the first piece of art of the Quarantaine Art Card, a A4 print by Shirley Villavicencio Pizango, a Ghent-based artist with Peruvian roots. Only active members in the upcoming week - starting from today, 20 March, until 26 March midnight - will receive this unique piece.
A crossover between her daily life in Ghent and the inheritance of her South-American culture is what defines her work. Geometrical figures and vegetal elements, linear patterns, daily situations in the Amazon and portraits of her family fill each painting, creating an intimate world. Her work reminds us of artists such as Picasso, Gauguin and Matisse, but also Frida Kahlo or Diego Rivera – great sources of inspiration for a young artist.
