Get to know contemporary latin club producer Merca Bae
Our community is quite ambitious and reaching further and further. In the past we’ve had a great bunch of interesting people working, interning and volunteering for us, who later on spread their wings to discover what was beyond the Belgian borders. We remain curious about what they are doing and thought it might interest you as well! Anna is now living in Barcelona but was around for the early days of Subbacultcha in Belgium. She was our first international intern, always positive and eager to learn 💖

What are you up to these days?
I work for Record-Play, a music consultancy agency with clients like adidas, Google and Pro Evolution Soccer. I’m managing their music discovery platform MusicMap. We’re actually organising our very first event tomorrow Friday January the 18th at De Ruimte in Amsterdam! Apart from that I DJ once or twice a month as Titi Calor and enjoy living in the Sants neighbourhood in Barcelona.
What were you doing at Subbacultcha?
I broke the records of all interns (ever).
What’s your favourite Subba memory?
There are way too many: I will never forget the first day Kasper-Jan interviewed me to intern and ended up talking to Gerlin who invited me to a Wild Flag show, nor will I forget the first edition of Wastelands collectively dancing with John Maus on stage.
What Subbacultcha band are you still listening to?
All of them :^) From Primitive Art to Amen Dunes, Palmistry, The Space Lady, Bear Bones, Lay Low, Aisha Devi, Sun Araw and so on.
Which records are you playing most right now?
Negro Swan by Blood Orange, Dahlak Band by Hailu Mergia and lots of baile funk.
