Venturing into a fantastical world
You may not know soul sister Mahina yet, but just like we’re sure that her show at Psst Mademoiselle #10 will be fire, we’re also certain that you’ll hear much more from her in 2019. Another undeniable fact is that December is going to be a busy month for us music and culture aficionados. So to help us pick where to go for good tunes and warm vibes we asked Mahina which events she’s not missing out on in December. Take note!
To start off December, I invite you to attend a hip hop event in Mechelen, a city near and dear to my heart. “30 Years” is a meeting point for everyone, including those who have played their part in the hip hop scene in Mechelen. It’s an afternoon filled with documentaries, videos, suprise acts, a workshop and way more. Fill your Saturday afternoon with “some good hip hop vibes à la 015” followed by a hip hop party until dawn. Yikes!
On Monday the 10th of December deputy chair on the Women’s Council Tracy Bibo-Tansia, writer and organizer Heleen Debeuckelaere, professor Idesbald Goddeesir, writer and activist Melat Nigussie, and author of Congo: The Epic History of a People David Reybroeck, will share their ideas and discuss how they are confronted daily with the legacies of the colonial era. Enrich your perspective on an interesting topic that affects our society today and therefore should make all of us feel concerned.
Mama’s Open Mic is where I did my very first Open Mic, that was warmly received by the crowd. It was the door opener for me performing on stage. It’s a very nice concept that allows you to discover new artists and gives upcoming artist the opportunity to taste the fun of performing. It might be a door opener for you too. The event is organised each 2nd Tuesday of the month. Come and join me on this cozy evening with Miss Elli & Miss Samira Saleh.
