This year’s edition of Sonic City is curated by none other than Australian singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett. She follows in the footsteps of Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth), Viet Cong (former Preoccupations) and Savages. Barnett presents an almost all-women lineup. The Future Is Female! This happens to be the office motto at Girls Go BOOM (just kidding, we don’t have an office) so here’s my personal To-Go list… Remember, girls to the front!

Whip-smart social commentary packed into playful indierock songs with a delightful hint of country once in a while. Goat Girl has written an impressive debut album, revealing a lot on how it feels to be a post-teenager in a post-Brexit vote London.
If 10 Things I Hate About You hit the movie theatres in 2018, Katarina Stratford would be listening to Dream Wife.
Rundle writes the most devastatingly beautiful songs that are somehow filled with sorrow yet don’t bring you down. I especially love the single of her last album, ‘Heaven’, which has a great gothic dramatic build-up.
We’ve had the pleasure of having The Coathangers at a Girls Go BOOM show last year and they did an ah-ma-zing show. Including ballsy garage songs, delightfully gruffy vocals and an angry squeaky toy. Looking forward seeing them again at Sonic City.
Adigéry has more talent in her water-dipping toe than other people in their entire bodies and I just love the way she puts her personal stamp on just about everything she does, including making iPhone-shot video clips with her friends. Speaking of, can’t wait to dance on her last single ‘SCREEN’, it’s so fierce.
Sonic City takes places on Saturday 10 & Sunday 11 November at Départ (Nelson Mandelaplein), Kortrijk.
Girls Go BOOM is hosting the Revelation stage at the festival on Saturday with local future female talents: Sweats, Peuk, Rêverie and Annabel Lee.
