A collective surviving through punk
Bozar and Arty Farty Brussels are joining forces for a second edition of Nuits Sonores & European Lab Brussels. This event will offer you a forum (European Lab), exhibitions (Bozar Lab), a programme of electronic and independent music (Night 2/Bozar Takeover), as well as a large tour around Brussels (Night 1/The Loop & Extra). We’ve made you a top 3 of must-sees. Easy peasy baby!
Nuit 1 / The Loop – Ancienne Belgique
All Caps’ Calum MacRae first caught our attention through Jaded Lour’s layered house cuts back in 2010, one of which appeared on Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Electric compilations. The Glaswegian disappeared as quickly as he appeared, but later emerged out of nowhere as Lanark Artefax. His music now sounds darker and draws more from ambient then ever before, but his trademarks remain unchanged: the tracks are loopy, they’re disorderly, and best enjoyed as loudly as possible.
Night 2 / BOZAR Takeover – Terarken Rooms
Soulwax once sang: ‘Everybody wants to be the DJ’, and it’s true – everyone thinks they can spin a few tunes. But this guy is the real deal, a super talented mix master who ‘warps far out European club music to Angolan specifications’ according to Wire magazine. Specialising in a vibrant style of Batida which draws on kuduro, afro-house, and tarraxinha, DJ Nigga Fox has been tearing up Lisbon as part of the Príncipe label roster. That he’s coming north again just shows how successful Principe has become. See you on the dancefloor, yeah?
Night 2 / BOZAR Takeover – The Studio
Céline Gillain is a Brussels-based video maker, performer and musician. Her release on Lexi Disques was Pim-Crevette Records’ personal favourite of 2017. You should follow the advice of a man with a well-trained ear!
Nuits Sonores takes place in Brussels between 28 and 29 September. The Loop on day 1 is free for all. Tickets for BOZAR takeover on Day 2 can be found here.
