One of our favorite producers for the last two years, each Merca Bae release takes the experimental club sound to a whole new dimension. He mysteriously kept his identity for some time while collaborating with some of our current favorite artists (Lao and Santa Muerte to mention a few), however we now know he was born in Spain in 1994 and is now based in London. The young producer will mark the start of Sónar by day on Thursday and we literally just can’t wait!
Rising Brooklyn producer, vocalist and DJ, Kathy Yaeji Lee has owned this autumn’s break-through sound with her EP2, that’s making us simultaneously wipe away stray tears and sweatdrops on the dancefloor. It’s an 18 minute collection of soft ambient waves morphing into hazy, emotional trap tones and catchy house beats, all adorned by Yaeji’s sighed, chanted Korean and English lyrics.
Oklou founded the all-women DJ crew TGAF in Paris, while also releasing her own trip-hop-inspired, experimental productions online. She’s part of the Nuxxe gang who’s featured in the Dazed 100 list of 2018. NUXXE, Coucou Chloe, Oklou, Sega Bodega, and Shygirl, is both a collective and a record label, founded on the group’s shared no-fucks approach to genre or categorisation.
Portuguese Nidia Minaj feeds her outrageous raw ghetto funk on African and Brazilian influences and gives international electronic music another fresh breeze with her divinely produced tracks. Even though she started producing while attending high school, she’s a Príncipe Discos affiliate and one of her most promising acts.
Few DJs make us dance as Dinamarca does. Staycore 117 label boss and producer, Stockholm-based Dinamarca has released music from Mobilegirl, Mechatok, Toxe and many more. Needless to say that his tracks were heard from many artists at Sónar last year, played by the likes of Cashmere Cat and Evian Christ, so we couldn’t be happier to see the man himself at this year’s edition.
