Kasper-Jan selects SMIB

There’s a group of independent creators turning heads in Amsterdam : SMIB Worldwide, made up in 2014 by GRGY, Ray Fuego, Tirino Yspol and KC, later joined by Dess Finesse, Tads Thots, GHQST, Fosa YG en LoopeyLee. They’re an industrious collective dropping EPs, mixtapes, merchandise and clothing lines – all without breaking a sweat. They riled up devoted crowds at Appelsap festival and have become an act you can’t miss live or online – check out their beats on Soundcloud, Squad TV on YouTube, style on Tumblr – plus they’ve been known to venture into the local art scene in A’dam.

Our editor-in-chief Kasper-Jan selects 5 songs from the SMIB collective you should check.

Ray Fuego – Ordeloos

Ray Fuego is the most interesting rapper in the Netherlands right now. His live shows are insane.

A song taken from their lost files. The catchy beat is provided by SMIB manager Larry Appiah.

Ray Fuego ft. GRGY, Tads Thots & GHQST – Tonnop

Taken from the Bakuhatsu compilation album which was released under the label SMIB. Ray Fuego and co on a roll.

GRGY – Pink Hair Shawty

Another hit from the Bakuhatsu album. I really like this beat by GRGY.

Gucci Louis Polo Prada

Gucci Louis Polo Prada was released two years ago and became kind of a SMIB anthem. The entire squad in 1 video with guest appearances of Yung Nnelg, Donnie and Bonne Reijn.

SMIB headline this year’s Different Class at 019, Ghent on 26 August. The festival is free for Subbacultcha members. Join here.
