If there weren’t any blacks you’d have to invent them (1968) is a thought-provoking drama by Johnny Speight, in which he examines the mechanisms behind racism and discrimination. This year, almost exactly 50 years after its release, five actors attempt to translate the views on racism and identity from the 1960s into current terms, taking on 16 roles in total for the play. Through their acting, they offer a mirror that reveals a frightening truth about the present.
