Sun’s out, fun’s out! With Spring coming in, Belgium’s glimming with activities these days. Aside from our Subbacultcha shows we want you to know what else is going on this month music-wise. We asked PopKatari‘s Hadrien Panelli, a teacher, DIY concert promoter, freelance booking agent (for PILE) and drummer in Sonny’s Heels, King Fu and Sangsoo, to fill us in on the events you should most definitely go to this month.
Triple bill at my favourite venue in Liège. I have a huge love for Buildings; they are the perfect heirs of 90’s noise giants such as Jesus Lizard or Shellac. The band is back in Belgium for the first time since 2012. Their new record You Are Not One Of Us (Antena Krzyku – great polish label) is really worth your time. They will also be headlining at Magasin 4 in Brussels on 4 May.
You should go to Meat Wave’s concert because they have never played in Brussels. They are a recently formed band from Chicago and play loud and catchy punk rock with lots of energy and conviction. Steve Albini recorded their new album The Incessant. This gig is also important to me personally as I’ll be opening the concert with my new band King Fu, and it will be our first show on a big stage.
I’ll be at this concert as a fan. Show Me The Body released an outstanding first album in 2016 called Body War and featuring some terrifying vociferations à la Death Grips or NAH. Their singer, Julian Cashwan, plays the banjo instead of the guitar. Their live reputation is excellent. I can’t wait to go see them. They seem to be really challenging and unpredictable. They remind me of the great Dope Body who played their last show in Europe for PopKatari in 2015.
