Tell us, what do you do in life?
I’m the editor-in-chief of Indiestyle, a website that focuses on new and exciting bands and artists and tries to be an independent and critical voice in the Belgian music scene. We’re aiming to reach people who are constantly searching for new stuff. I’m also still studying, I’m writing a thesis for a master’s in international relations and diplomacy.
What inspires you?
People inspire me. I’m always glad when my phone battery is empty and I’ve got kind of an excuse to talk to strangers on the train. I feel so stupid for not doing that more often, because it always makes me so so happy.
What kind of music are you listening to at the moment?
There are a lot of interesting electronic musicians out there right now who are blending art forms, who are trying to find themselves and who are challenging our emotionless mainstream. I’m thinking of Arca and Rabit and Toxe and Nkisi and Elysia Crampton, and the whole SoundCloud world surrounding them.
What do you like best about your place?
I like the speakers in my bed. They’re not that great but waking up with some MJ through my bed stereo is the best thing ever.
What does an ideal lazy Sunday look like for you?
I don’t like lazy Sundays really, so that’s hard to say. A lazy Sunday should probably contain some dog-walking, binge-watching, sleeping ’til noon and eating pizza.
What’s your favourite pastime?
I’m sorry for the predictable answer but going to a concert is my favourite pastime. It’s an escape from reality, I like that.
Any guilty pleasures?
No guilty pleasures, I don’t feel ashamed of anything I like. No one should! Actually, I really I hate these two words: it’s 2016, your ‘guilty pleasure’ is probably a thousand times more interesting than the next new alternative band.
Which future Subbacultcha show are you looking forward to?
Elysia Crampton: she’s such a visionary artist with a unique sound and an important message. Her album American Drift had a huge impact on me.
Every month we visit a Subbacultcha member’s place. If you want us to visit you, please send an email to email@example.com. Become a membere here.
